April/May Essential Skills

Throughout the school year, we create essential skills we would like to see our students accomplish in Literacy and Math. Below are the skills we will be mastering in April and May of this school year.
4th Grade Math
- Use visual fraction models to explain equivalent fractions.
- Create common denominators or numerators by comparing to a benchmark to compare fractions.
- Use the symbols greater than, less than or equal to to compare fractions.
- Justify conclusions using a visual model.
- Relate fractions to decimals.
5th Grade Math
- Simplify an expression using the order of operations.
- Interpret expressions without simplifying them.
- Identify relationships between corresponding terms into patterns.
- Represent points in a coordinate plane.
- Persevere through math problem solving.
4th/5th Grade Literacy
- Use the Internet to research and identify important information related to a person in history.
- Use the writing process to publish a biography using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Read and explore historical fiction texts.
- Compare and contrast historical events with historical fiction texts.
- Work together collaboratively to analyze and discuss historical fiction texts.

Jefferson’s Got Talent

On Wednesday, April 10, 2013, Jefferson School will hold our 1st annual talent show in the gym. The show will start at 12:30 pm and will last approximately until 2:00 pm. All families are welcome to cheer and support our talented Jefferson students. We hope to see you there!

Family Movie Night
March 13th, 2013 · No Comments · Jefferson
Bring the whole family to the Jefferson School gym for a fun night of movies and popcorn on Thursday, March 21, 2013 from 5:30-7:00 pm! We will be serving popcorn and juice boxes while watching a family movie. Chairs will be provided but please feel free to bring your own lawn chair or blanket to sit on. Last, please remember that all students must be chaperoned if they are going to attend movie night.

FSO Meeting

We welcome all parents to attend our Family School Organization meeting on March 20, 2013 at 7:30 am in the main office. We will be discussing ideas for school events as well as future participation for next year. We will also address the success of the Box Top program and Labels for Education program. As always, we encourage you to bring in any ideas and suggestions you may have to help make Jefferson even better! Thank you.

Gum Chewing in School

A friendly reminder that students should not be bringing gum to school. We are having difficulty with chewed gum being found on the floor throughout the school and inside/underneath student desks/tables. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have questions regarding this. Thank you!

Civil War & World War II Resources

Right now we are building our background knowledge for both wars with a focus on how the wars effected everyday life in the United States. Are you a singer? A rapper? A dancer? Do you play an instrument? Can you tell jokes and make people laugh? Do you write great poems or stories? Can you turn a mean cartwheel? If you have a talent and want to share it, we want to see what you’ve got! Let’s showcase all of the incredible talents of Jefferson students! If you are interested, just complete the bottom of the document posted below with your parents. We will hold auditions on March 13th, 14th, and 15th and the Jefferson Talent Show will be held on Wednesady, April 10, 2013.
