Statewide Poster Contest

April 13th, 2012 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Andreah Newberry, a fifth-grader at Jefferson, won a statewide contest for her creation of a poster recognizing National Missing Children’s Day.   Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen along with Jefferson Elementary joined Andreah and her family as she accepted the award certificate Thursday.   Andreah’s poster will represent Wisconsin in a national competition later this year and she has a chance to win a trip to go to Washington, D.C., to attend the annual National Missing Children’s Day Ceremony.   Each state’s missing children clearing house will submit a winning poster to the U.S. Department of Justice for final judging. The national judging will take place later this month.  Wisconsin’s Clearing House for Missing and Exploited Children and Adults develops and coordinates the process for the statewide poster competition.

Way to go, Andreah!  We are so proud of you!

Statewide Spelling Competition

April 13th, 2012 · No Comments · Uncategorized

A couple weeks ago, the Green Bay Area Boys & Girls Club along with Festival Foods held a regional spelling bee competition.  One of our 4th graders, Maya, took 1st place in this contest which earned her a place to compete at the state-wide level.  This provided Maya with a spot in the state-wide spelling competition.

On Thursday, March 29, 2012, Maya competed via teleconference with other elementary students from around the state in the Boys & Girls’ Club/Festival Foods Spelling Bee competition.  Maya proved that she is the top spelling in the competition earning her a well-deserved 1st place!!  We are very proud with how gracious Maya was as the winner of this contest and how she represented Jefferson Elementary!

Great job Maya on your 1st place award!  Keep up the hard work!

Tooth Brushing Program

April 12th, 2012 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Through a grant with the Oral Health Partnership Program, students in Mrs. Schomaker’s, Mr. Landwehr’s, and Mrs. Woldt’s rooms will have the opportunity to brush their teeth once a day while at school. Brushing is very important to maintain good health and has been done in other Green Bay school classrooms with great success.  Each student will receive their own toothbrush to keep at school and will be provided toothpaste at the time of brushing every day. Students will be taught the importance of good dental hygiene and how to properly use and care for their toothbrush and toothpaste.  We hope this will help maintain your child’s dental health.  Thank you for teaching tooth brushing at home after meals and before school.  Together, we will keep our students healthy and learning!
