About our Class
Our class contains 17 very bright and joyful students. We are having a blast learning and growing together. Everyday we are engaging in math, reading, writing, and so much more!
- Math: We begin with 4 routines that expose the students to counting by 1′s and 10′s and that help us identify numbers. We then work on a new lesson almost everyday. For some lessons, we spend an extra day when necessary. We will be finishing up unit 3 at the end of February. The children love to raise the roof after a great learning day in math (they are stand up and do a little cheer to celebrate our love for math).
- Reading: The students are split up into 4 reading groups and visit a variety of centers. The centers contain activities relating to math, reading, writing, science, social students and so much more! They are a very fun and exciting time of our day. During this time the students also are meeting with Ms. Heidemann to work on small group reading. Some of the students receive additional reading help during this time from our Title 1 Reading teacher Ms. Stiebohr.
- Writing: Before we sit down to write, we usual spend some time sharing something we are going to write about. The topic is usually open and the children may write about whatever comes to mind. Some days we discuss a topic or read a story and the students respond to what they learned. The students then begin writing. I am usually walking around assisting students with stretching out their words, and reminding students to use capital letters and periods. Our entire class is able to write an entire sentence or more with minimal assistance. They are doing GREAT!
- Science/ Social Studies: These topics are usually intertwined throughout our day. We may read about the topic in a book. Some days we may watch an informative video. The students are always very excited to be learning about science/social studies and making connections to their own lives.
