Franklin News and Information:
Middle School Matters summer program is a program specifically designed for our incoming 5th grade students. The summer program builds our newest Bobcats’ excitement for their 6th grade adventure while dispelling fears and concerns they may have as they are welcomed and transition into our Franklin community. The students have an opportunity to meet new friends from our “sister” elementary schools, get a sneak peek at their schedules, have fun, tour the school, play games and meet several members of our staff. For details, stop in student services or all are welcome to call Franklin student services at 492-2672. We are providing a more personal approach for those still deciding on Franklin as their school of choice. Those needing more information are welcome to have their child shadow one of our student ambassadors for a half day. This can be organized on an individual basis. It begins with the child’s parent (or school liaison such as the principal or a counselor) contacting our student services department. An important part of this experience is to give the parent and child an opportunity to get a feel for our exceptional school and staff. What is IB MYP and why should I consider this program for my child? Franklin Middle School is home to the area’s only International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) candidacy school. The IB MYP provides students unique, rigorous instruction wrapped in global awareness and authentic learning opportunities. IB MYP students are well prepared for high school, advanced coursework and have a solid foundation for post-secondary school. Our students have enriched learning experiences as they complete 8 areas of content, known as the octagon. The octagon includes English, Humanities, Mathematics, Sciences, World Language, Technology, Arts and Physical Education/Health. Uniquely, with the successful completion of World Language and Health course work, students leave Franklin Middle School with 2.5 high school credit completion.
